In the northern reaches of Kabul, Afghanistan, where Nowzad has been running its Working Animal Programme since 2022, our vet team was called out to a poor foal in a shocking state. The young horse had tragically lost her ears to a vicious dog attack when she couldn’t get up back up after her tethering rope had wrapped around her legs and she’d fallen over. She had also suffered wounds to her legs and ankles. Rescued by Dr. Reshad and his team, she was brought to the donkey sanctuary for urgent care, and affectionately named ‘NoEars’.
Weeks of care and treatment followed. NoEars, though scarred, slowly began to heal. Her wounds, both on her ears and legs, gradually mended.
Now, residing peacefully in the shelter, she shares her days with her fellow donkeys and Azad the horse. NoEars’ gentle and playful nature is evident in her love for running around the exercise area and all her friendly interactions with humans and other donkeys. A particular fondness for apples and carrots adds a touch of sweetness to her character.
Our shelter will provide NoEars with a permanent home for the rest of her life. As long as Nowzad is in Afghanistan with your help, NoEars will be safe and happy with us.
Please consider making a donatation to help another donkey or horse receive the treatment they all so desperately need. Thank-you for caring.
