In conjunction with Animal Aid Abroad’s Walk a mile in a donkey’s shoes campaign Nowzad Founder Pen Farthing took to the streets of Kabul to quite literally walk a mile in a donkey’s shoes and raise awareness of the plight of working donkeys and equines.
Pen says; ‘Pulling the cart along the dangerous and congested roads of Kabul was eye opening to what a donkey has to endure whilst working the streets of Kabul.
Heavy traffic, the cars showed no regard for the donkeys traveling alongside them, as well as the noise and unrelenting burden of the load the animal is being forced to carry.
It was not a great experience but made me even more determined to help these poor animals through Nowzad’s working animal programme’.
Whilst Pen was out pulling the cart the donkey enjoyed a health check-up from Nowzad veterinarian Dr Reshad whilst munching down on some juicy carrots and a box of ginger snaps.
You can support Pen’s efforts by purchasing Nowzad’s very own ‘A donkey shouldn’t work its ass off’ T-shirt from our online shop here:
All profits from the sale of the T-shirt support the running of the Nowzad donkey sanctuary and our working animals programme here in Kabul.
Or you can simply donate to the programme here:
