Izyum, Ukraine – Thanks to the superhuman efforts of our volunteers in Ukraine, Nowzad has just reached a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to support Ukraine's animal population.
On November 10th 2024, we administered its 2,000th rabies vaccination to a very special dog named Rada.
Rada, a survivor of the Russian occupation of Izyum, holds a unique place in all our hearts. Her owner, Andreij, provided shelter and safety in an underground bunker to countless people and animals like Rada during the darkest days of the war – exactly where our dedicated volunteer vet technician Angela first met Rada and Andrejj. Now, two years later, Rada symbolizes the resilience of both human and animal life in Ukraine.
Throughout 2024, Nowzad has supported a massive Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) campaign across five key regions in Ukraine. This initiative has sterilized over 500 stray and abandoned dogs and cats, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable street animal population. In addition to TNVR, the organization has microchipped animals to facilitate future adoption and vaccinated them against various diseases, with a particular focus on rabies prevention.
Angela has been instrumental in this life-saving work. She expressed her deep gratitude for the impact of the vaccination program after finishing in Izyum last week: "I cannot tell you all how much this has meant for the well-being of animals in Ukraine, the safety of small shelters, and the hearts and minds of people caring for them. It's not just saving animals; it's saving hearts and souls."
As of today, Nowzad has successfully vaccinated over 2,120 animals against rabies in regions including Izyum, Kherson, and Mykolaiv. We have made an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of animals in war-torn Ukraine and will continue doing so for as long as you support us.
Your generous support does make a positive difference. You can support rabies vaccinations in both Ukraine and Afghanistan by donating here. Thank you for caring.
